Materials

  • Schachenmayr Catania (100% Cotton, 125m (137yds)/50g (1.76oz), Sport Weight) Yarn in the following colors
    • Grey
    • Small amount of Black for the eyes and mouth
  • Crochet hook: 2.00 mm
  • Filling
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

  • St(s) – stitch(es)
  • Mr – magic ring
  • Sc – single crochet
  • Inc – increase (2 sc in next st)
  • Dec – decrease (2 sc worked off together)
  • (nr) – indicates the total number of stitches in the current row/round

Important Notes

  • All rounds are worked in a continuous spiral. Do not join or turn, unless instructed otherwise.
  • You may find it useful to use a stitchmarker for counting your rounds.
  • Stuff pieces as you go. Give each part a nice shape. Avoid overstuffing as it might overstretch the crocheted piece.

Size of the finished figure

The finished mouse finger puppet is about 9 cm (3.5 inches) tall, if you use similar weight yarn. In case you use a thicker yarn, your finger puppet will be bigger, if you use thiner yarn, your mouse will be smaller.

Head

Round 1:  6 sc in mr (6)
Round 2:  inc*6 (12)
Round 3:  (sc, inc)*6 (18)
Round 4:  (2 sc, inc)*6 (24)
Round 5:  (3 sc, inc)*6   (30)
Round 6 – Round 10: sc*30 (30)  
Round 11:  (3 sc, dec)*6 (24)
Round 12:  (2 sc, dec)*6   (18)

Start stuffing the head and keep on stuffing while crocheting.

Round 13: (sc, dec)*6 (12)
Round 14:  dec*6 (6)

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Eyes

I sewed the eyes in row 6, 7 with 4 stitches in between.

Mouth

I sewed the mouth in row 9, 10.

Ears

Make 2 ears.

Round 1:  6 sc in mr (6)
Round 2:  (inc)*6 (12)
Round 3:  (sc, inc)*6 (18)

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Arms

Make 2 arms.

Round 1:  6 sc in mr (6)
Round 2:  sc, inc, 2 sc, inc, sc (8)
Round 3 – Round 11:  sc*8 (8)

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Body

Round 1:  6 sc in mr (6)
Round 2:  inc*6 (12)
Round 3:  (sc, inc)*6 (18)
Round 4:  (2 sc, inc)*6 (24)
Round 5 – Round 19:  sc*24 (24)

Fasten off.

Sewing pieces together

Sew the ears on the top of the head.

Sew the hands to the sides of the body between rows 4-5.

Sew the head on the body.
