    • White
    • Red
  • Crochet hook: 3.50 mm
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • mr – magic ring
  • dc – double crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • inc – increase (2 sc in next st)
  • dec – decrease (2 sc worked off together)
  • (nr) – indicates the total number of stitches in the current row/round

Pattern Instructions

Head

Round 1:  12 dc in mr (12)
Round 2:  inc*12 (24)
Round 3:  (dc, inc)*12 (36)
Round 4:  (2 dc, inc)*12 (48)
Round 5:  (sc, skip 1 st, 7 dc in the next st, skip 1 st) *8 , sc (65)

Finish off.

Hat

Continue crocheting the hat with red yarn directly onto the head, beginning in the next stitch.

Row 1:  (1 hdc in each of the next 4 st, 2 hdc in the next st) *2, 1 hdc in each of the next 4 st (16), ch 1, turn
Row 2:  hdc, dec, 10 hdc, dec, hdc, ch 1, turn (14)
Row 3:  hdc, dec, 8 hdc, dec, hdc, ch 1, turn (12)
Row 4:  hdc, dec, 6 hdc, dec, hdc, ch 1, turn (10)
Row 5:  hdc, dec, 4 hdc, dec, hdc, ch 1, turn (8)
Row 6:  hdc, dec, 2 hdc, dec, hdc, ch 1, turn (6)
Row 7:  hdc, dec, dec, hdc, ch 1, turn (4)
Row 8:  dec, dec, ch 1, turn (2)
Row 9:  dec, (1). Finish off.
Row 10:  Change the color to white for the pompon. Make 5 dc in the same st, leaving the last loop of each on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook to finish them off together.
