Materials

  • Schachenmayr Catania (100% Cotton, 125m (137yds)/50g (1.76oz), Sport Weight) Yarn held double in the following colors
    • Orange
    • Small amount of Brown for the Stem
  • Crochet hook: 3.50 mm
  • Filling
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • hdc BLO – half double crochet back loop only
  • hdc FLO – half double crochet front loop only
  • (nr) – indicates the total number of stitches in the current row/round

How to locate the front and back loops

The front loops are the ones that are closer to you when you are working any row. The back loops are the ones that they are further away from you in any given row.

Size of the finished item

The finished pumpkin is about 6 cm (2.4 inches) tall, if you use similar weight yarn. In case you use a thicker yarn, your pumpkin will be bigger, if you use thiner yarn, your pumpkin will be smaller.

Pattern Instructions

Pumpkin

Row 1:  ch*15 (15)
Row 2: 14 hdc, (14) /starting from the 2nd ch on the hook add 1 hdc to each ch/, ch 1, turn
Row 3: 14 hdc BLO (14) ch 1, turn
Row 4: 14 hdc FLO (14) ch 1, turn
Row 5-23: Repeat Row 3 and 4 (every even-numbered row is hdc BLO, every odd-numbered row is hdc FLO) (14)

Finish off. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Stem

Row 1:  6 ch (6)
Row 2:  Start in the second chain from the hook: 1 sc in each ch (5)

Sewing pieces together

Sew row 1 and row 23 of the pumpkin together.

Using a tapestry needle, sew a simple running stitch across the top edge of the pumpkin, going in and out of each stitch. Gently pull on the yarn tail to tighten and close up the top opening.

Close the bottom opening using the same method as for the top.

Sew the stem on the top of the pumpkin.
