My best winter childhood memories are building snowmen with my friends and family. This winter even if it is not snowing, all you need is your crochet hook and some yarn, and you can crochet this cute little snowman. It is quick and easy to make, perfect for beginners, even as your first crochet project.

Skill level
Beginner
Materials
- Schachenmayr Catania (100% Cotton, 125m (137yds)/50g (1.76oz), Sport Weight) Yarn in the following colors
- White
- Color of choice for the hat and the scarf
- Small amount of Black for the eyes, mouth and buttons
- Crochet hook: 2.00 mm
- Filling
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Abbreviations
- St(s) – stitch(es)
- Mr – magic ring
- Sl st – slip stitch
- Ch – chain
- Sc – single crochet
- Inc – increase (2 sc in next st)
- Dec – decrease (2 sc worked off together)
- (nr) – indicates the total number of stitches in the current row/round
Important Notes
- All rounds are worked in a continuous spiral. Do not join or turn, unless instructed otherwise.
- You may find it useful to use a stitchmarker for counting your rounds.
- Stuff pieces as you go. Give each part a nice shape. Avoid overstuffing as it might overstretch the crocheted piece.
Size of the finished figure
The finished snowman ornament is about 5 cm (2 inches) tall, if you use similar weight yarn. In case you use a thicker yarn, your amigurumi ornament will be bigger, if you use thiner yarn, your snowman will be smaller.
Pattern Instructions
For the hat and scarf, you can use any color you like. You can even make the hat striped. This is a perfect way to use up your yarn scraps.
Hat

I started with red yarn.
Round 1: 6 sc in mr (6)
Round 2: inc*6 (12)
Round 3: (sc, inc)*6 (18)
Round 4: (2 sc, inc)*6 (24)
Round 5 – Round 6: sc*24 (24)
I changed the color to green yarn.
Round 7 – Round 8: sc*24 (24)
Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
Scarf

I used red yarn.
30 sl st
Fasten off, leave a long tail, so it is easier to tie around the neck.
Body and Head
The body and the head is crocheted in one continuous piece.
With white yarn:
Round 1: 6 sc in mr (6)
Round 2: inc*6 (12)
Round 3: (sc, inc)*6 (18)
Round 4: (2 sc, inc)*6 (24)
Round 5: (3 sc, inc)*6 (30)
Round 6 – Round 9: sc*30 (30)
Round 10: (3 sc, dec)*6 (24)
Round 11: (2 sc, dec)*6 (18)
Start stuffing the body and keep on stuffing while crocheting.
Round 12: (sc, dec)*6 (12)
Round 13: sc*12 (12)
Round 14: (sc, inc)*6 (18)
Round 15: (2 sc, inc)*6 (24)
Round 16 – Round 18: sc*24 (24)
Round 19: (2 sc, dec)*6 (18)

At this point although the head is not finished yet, you can try the hat and and scarf on your snowman to see what would be the best positioning for the eyes, mouth and buttons.

Eyes
I sewed the eyes in row 16, 17 with 3 stitches in between.
Mouth
I sewed the mouth in row 14, 15.
Buttons
I sewed the buttons in row 8 and 10 centered between the eyes.

Body and Head (continued)
Round 20: (sc, dec)*6 (12)
Round 21: dec*6 (6),
Fasten off.

Sewing pieces together
Sew the hat on. Pay attention that any color changes you made should fall on the back of the head.
Tie on the scarf. You can cut the ends shorter now. With a sewing needle you can separate the yarn strands, so it looks like scarf fringes.
Add a thread for hanging the ornament.
