Materials

  • Schachenmayr Catania (100% Cotton, 125m (137yds)/50g (1.76oz), Sport Weight) Yarn in the following colors
    • Brown
    • Grey
    • Small amount of Black for the eyes and mouth
  • Crochet hook: 2.00 mm
  • Filling
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

  • St(s) – stitch(es)
  • Mr – magic ring
  • Sc – single crochet
  • Inc – increase (2 sc in next st)
  • Dec – decrease (2 sc worked off together)
  • (nr) – indicates the total number of stitches in the current row/round

Important Notes

  • All rounds are worked in a continuous spiral. Do not join or turn, unless instructed otherwise.
  • You may find it useful to use a stitchmarker for counting your rounds.
  • Stuff pieces as you go. Give each part a nice shape. Avoid overstuffing as it might overstretch the crocheted piece.

Size of the finished figure

The finished doll is about 11 cm (4.3 inches) tall, if you use similar weight yarn. In case you use a thicker yarn, your doll will be bigger, if you use thiner yarn, your doll will be smaller.

Pattern Instructions

The legs, the body and the head are made as one continouos piece.

Legs

Make 2 legs. Stuff the legs as you go.

Round 1:  6 sc in mr (6)
Round 2:  sc, inc, inc, sc, inc, inc (10)
Round 3 – Round 12:  sc*10 (10)

Finish off, cut the yarn for the first leg, but do NOT cut the yarn for the second leg, as we will continue with the body.

Body

Chain 2 to connect the legs

Round 13: sc*24 (24) (sc all the way around one leg, sc in the 2 chains connecting the legs, sc all the way around the other leg, sc in the 2 chains connecting the legs)

Round 14 – Round 25: sc*24 (24)
Round 26:  (6 sc, dec) *3 (21)
Round 27:  (5 sc, inc)*3 (18)

Start stuffing the body and keep on stuffing while crocheting.

Round 28: (sc, dec)*6 (12)

Do NOT cut the yarn we will continue with the head.

Head

Round 29: sc*12 (12)
Round 30:  (sc, inc)*6 (18)
Round 31:  (2 sc, inc)*6 (24)
Round 32:  (3 sc, inc)*6 (30)
Round 33:  (4 sc, inc)*6 (36)
Round 34:  (5 sc, inc)*6 (42)
Round 35 – Round 41: sc*42 (42)

Start stuffing the head and keep on stuffing while crocheting.

Fasten off.

Eyes

I sewed the eyes in row 36, 37 with 7 stitches in between.

Mouth

I sewed the mouth in row 33, 34.

Arms

Make 2 arms.

Round 1:  6 sc in mr (6)
Round 2:  sc, inc, 2 sc, inc, sc (8)
Round 3 – Round 13:  sc*8 (8)
Round 14:  sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, sc (6)

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Bear costume

Overal

Make 2 pant legs.

Round 0: chain 14, join in a circle
Round 1: 1 sc in each ch (14)
Round 2 – Round 10: sc * 14 (14)

Finish off, cut the yarn for the first pant leg, but do NOT cut the yarn for the second pant leg, as we will continue with the rest of the overal.

Round 11: sc*28 (28) (sc all the way around one pant leg, sc all the way around the other leg, so they are connected now)

Round 12 – Round 20: sc * 28 (28)

Round 21: 8 sc, ch 7, skip 4 st(s), 12 sc, ch 7, skip 4 st(s) (34)

Round 22: sc, dec, 2sc, dec, sc, 1 sc in each of next 7 ch, sc, dec, 6sc, dec, sc, 1 sc in each of next 7 ch (30)

Round 23: 2sc, dec, 26 sc (29)

Round 24 – Round 15: sc * 29 (29)

Finish off.

Hood

Round 1: sc*6 (6)
Round 2: inc*6 (12)
Round 3:  (sc, inc)*6 (18)

Sewing pieces together

Sew the hands to the sides of the body between rows 26-27.

Sew the ears on top of the hood.

Sew the hood on the overal.
